Intrinsic Safety Certifications

ACKme customers may need to obtain Intrinsic safety certifications when their products are to be used in hazardous environments, in particular these certifications are typical when the environment may exhibit combustible gases. 
 
By example:
Class 1 Division 1A (C1D1A) is listed as the most dangerous location and often there is acetylene gas present.
A C1D2 location may be a location where there is an unleaded gasoline pump present
 
Electronic equipment used in these locations has to be tested by an independent lab and certified as safe for use. The independent lab typically asks to review the schematics of your device so they may verify that in the event of a failure condition then the end equipment will not create a spark that may ignite the hazardous atmosphere. With modules and complex semiconductors it is typical the independent lab may request the following information:

Does Wallaby contain a "switch mode power supply"?

As with ALL wireless radio's there is a switched mode buck regulator within the silicon itself. The WLAN silicon uses one to reduce the voltage from 3.3 to 1.8 volts for the core. 

The entire WLAN circuit including the regulator inductor are housed under the protective shield.
